Fridays March 2, March 9 & March 23, 2018 ·
10:00 am - 2:00 pm
$185 members, $205 non-members
Creative techniques using cold wax medium are easy to learn and endless to explore! Join local artist Randall Graham for hands-on instruction and demonstrations examining the work of contemporary painters. Working on their own projects, students will learn the essentials for painting with cold wax medium.
Class will begin by going over materials, substrates and tools. Color combinations, composition and beginning layers will be discussed. Cold wax techniques demonstrated will include: layering, surface effects, transfers, mark making, additives powders & pigments, blotting & compression, solvents, collage and glazing.
There are many reasons the cold wax medium attracts artists. It adheres to surfaces, resists the elements and handles pigments well. It can be worked in a breadth of textures, from velvety smooth to carved and jagged. Wax has a fantastic translucence that allows light to enter and re-emerge from the painting. Painting with wax offers the opportunity to work with history. Artists can build up layers and then dig back into them. This develops textures and patinas that symbolize the passage of time. It promotes many of the best qualities of encaustics, but is more painterly and does not require heat.
Please note: This is a 3 part class which meets on 3/2, 3/9 and 3/23. There is no class 3/16
